HIGH NECKLINE DRESS

Some time ago, a pattern maker I work with remarked that I seemed to be drawn to high necklines. It was not something I had consciously noticed before. Yet the observation lingered, opening up another way of looking at the relationship between clothing and the body. There is beauty in revealing the body, in emphasizing its shape. This dress, however, began from a different place.
It began with the space that exists around the body.
Working directly on the mannequin, the process became an exercise in balance: how much fabric to give, how much of the body to allow it to contain. Not to conceal, nor to expose, but to create a quiet distance between the two.
A garment can become another space surrounding the body.
The high neckline is part of that gesture. It gently defines a presence without insisting upon it. As the wearer stands, walks, and moves, the space shifts continuously. The fabric moves away from the body, then returns to it. Shapes appear and disappear, never remaining fixed. Perhaps clothing is not an object that describes the body, but a way of creating a place for it to inhabit.
 
Made from our original organic cotton, the fabric has a substantial weight and a dry touch. It holds its own structure while responding softly to movement, revealing different expressions throughout the day.
